Sports Presenter

Luyolo Mkalipi is a self-motivated young professional with extensive experience and knowledge within the media industry. A passionate sports development enthusiast, Luyolo joined an online campus radio station Unisa Radio in 2012 as a sport anchor, reporter, and moved to Cape Town in 2016 as a freelance writer,  junior editor, copywriter, online content producer for TeamTalk/Ole Media Group while working as a freelance African Sports correspondent for Ubuntu Radio (Department of International Relations and Cooperation). 

 

As a sports producer and match reporter for SAFM for two years he worked under the guidance of experienced sports anchors and commentators such as Duane Dell'Oca, Brad Brown and Thabiso Mosia. Luyolo moved to Umhlobo Wenene FM as the second sports producer and content creator in 2019. Later, he became a producer and on-air contributor for the Saturday Sport Breakfast Show - Ezemidlalo no lonwabo with renowned SA Sport presenter and commentator Mluleki Ntsabo, who continues to mentor him today. 

 

His career highlights include SAB Radio Sports Awards Best Newcomer and Best Producer nominations in 2018, Boxing South Africa Awards Best Media winner and  two time Liberty Radio Awards Nominee for Best Sports Show (Ezemidlalo with the late Bro. Loyiso Lloyd Sitsheke). A favorite moment of Mkalipi's young broadcasting career was when he interviewed Legendary Commentator Sir Martin Tyler, the voice of FIFA on racial abuse of black England players during the 2021 Euros. In his career, he has also covered the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, AFCON (men and women), and 2019 Rugby World Cup for SABC Sport and TruFM.  

 

In addition to his breakfast show work, Luyolo continues to build his name as an MC at sporting events, an ambassador for youth development, and a public speaker.
