On August 18th 2000 the SABC sent out a radio signal in languages never before heard on air. Two San communities that had been dumped a decade previously on a barren patch of earth 90 kilometers outside Kimberley, the! Xun of southern Angola and the Khwe of northern Namibia finally had a voice.
“People told us for the first time they could ask questions about their own future,” says Pippa Green, head of SABC radio news, describing the reaction to XK FM’s launch.
