As we are celebrating 60 years of Umhlobo Wenene FM get to know me, better

1. I am Nosimphiwe Jikijela, a feminist from Tyinirha location eNqamakwe, Eastern Cape. I am a black conscious, fun loving and humble woman who likes to smile and laugh. But, that smile is easily replaced with tears when I see people suffering and unable to help… that really breaks my heart. I believe in the empowerment of the vulnerable groups in our communities, in order for them to be self-reliant.

2. Radio legends like uMama uLinda Gqomfa, uMakazi uZola Kaso Majiza, uMakhosandile Ndzishe and Phozisa Matoti inspired me to love radio. Their presenting style and welcoming personalities behind the microphone really inspired me.

3. To me, radio means a counselor who is always there for everyone in different situations. What drives me to do what I do is the opportunity and ability to make a difference in people’s lives.

4. I would still be interacting with people as a counselor, facilitator or a motivational speaker.

5. I would like people to remember me as a change maker.

6. Some people do not know that: I write IsiXhosa poetry; I am passionate about South African languages; I support the promotion of gender equality; I love music and comedy;
