Content Producer of BEE

  1. Who are you?  ……..

I’m from Graaff-Reinet. The 4th oldest and one of the most beautiful towns in South Africa. Home to Pan-Africanist Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe and South Africa’s greatest industrialists and philantropists, Anton Rupert.

I’ve always wanted to be an Astronomer. I’m fascinated by natural science, I was hoping to pursue a career in celestial objects and phenomena, but it was when I was in Grade 11 that the radio bug came on hard in me. I joined Radio Graaff-Reinet. Two years later, I came to NMMU to study, but couldn’t shake off the radio factor. I entered the Bay-Fm Presenter Search Competition, out of thousands of entrants I came in 2nd place. The winner got a weekend breakfast show. I walked home “empty handed”. A week later the station’s management gave me a call and offered me their week-nights 9pm till midnight. Two years later, I got a call from Trufm. On Trufm I did a successful Afternoon Drive and their Chart Show on Saturday morning. Three years later I graduated to Breakfast Show. In 2016 I joined uMhlobo Wenene FM as a Content Producer and On-Air Contributor for SijikiLanga with Amaza Ntshanga.

  1. What show do you host?

Content Producer and On-Air Contributor for BEE, Mon – Fri 6-9am. To laugh and learn. But, more importantly to continue with the conversation after the show is over.

  1. When and how did your career start?

Before uMhlobo Wenene FM I was with Social Development Communications and has also worked for the IEC (Research). Zolani Bongco made radio look easy to do. Thami Dickson and Luzuko Koti pioneered the youth element when everyone else thought uMhlobo Wenene was not cool. Putco Mafani, Pastor Nozewu, Mafa Bavuma & Mluleki Ntsabo are a definition of team work. Gareth Cliff and Anele Mdoda enabled me to deliver heavy informative content in a most humorous and simple way. And, the passion and hunger with which most presenters on community radio take what they do seriously inspires me. So all these elements continue to shape me into a better content producer and presenter.

  1. What have you achieved thus far within your career? What are your career highlights?

I have TWO Awards from Radio Graaff-Reinet, for Best Entertainment Show and Best Current Affairs Presenter. I might not have won the “first prize” at BayFM (Weekend Breakfast), but I was offered a weeknights show J which means I was on air 5 times a week than the actually “winner” J. At Trufm, when I was doing the Afternoon Drive I commanded the biggest listenership on the station for a number of consecutive years J

  1. Besides radio, what do you do?

I’m passionate about Education. Each year I visit various schools to motivate matriculants and to address first year students. I’m a professional Public Speaker and Events MC. I have Diploma in Broadcasting. I have an Honours Degree in Public Administration. And, I’m currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Development Studies.

  1. Give me a microphone, stage and crowd, then you be the judge J
  2. I’m a brilliant swimmer, had the rural schools I’ve been to had resources and facilities, I’d probably be part of South African Swimming Team in the Olympics.
  3. I love information. I think I’m naturally curious, any piece of information is useful to me, cause I don’t want to be left out of any conversation.
