Thulasizwe Simelane is Head: Business Development and Stakeholder Management at Harith General Partners. He is a senior broadcast journalist and news anchor, with 20 years experience. His on air career has included hosting a range of day and prime time, as well as weekend news programmes such as eNCA’s “Upfront”, “All-Angles”, “Today”, as well as the hugely successful “Corruption Scorecard”. He has also anchored news and talk shows on Talk Radio 702. Over the course of his career, Simelane has been at the forefront of the coverage of some of the major turning points of this country, continent and region’s recent history.

In 2019, he was part of the launch team for the new news channel, Newzroom Afrika, where he headed up the political news desk, and anchored the afternoon news programme – “Newsfeed”. His formative years in journalism were spent at the SABC, where he held a number of roles including that of senior political journalist for both radio and TV. In 2007, Simelane established and ran the SABC’s bureau in Harare, Zimbabwe for 3 and half years. This thrust him in the middle of arguably the most challenging story of his career and saw him bear witness to momentous events such as that country’s 2008 elections, political violence, cholera outbreak and negotiations towards, and formation of, a government of national unity. 

As a result, Simelane has returned multiple times to Zimbabwe in the latter years of his career, and reported extensively on the coup that ousted Robert Mugabe in 2017, as well as the elections and deadly protests of 2018. He has also reported from a host of other African countries, including the DRC, Niger, Somalia, Zambia, Benin, Senegal, Tanzania and many more. His public and media relations experience includes serving briefly, as the spokesperson for the Gauteng MEC for Infrastructure Development, from late 2012 to mid-2013. He frequently writes opinion pieces, which have been published in some of the country’s leading newspapers. He recently (2023) completed his LLB degree, and is working towards admission as a Legal Practitioner.
