SABC 3 brings you a new comedy entertainment show It’s OK, We’re Family which will be broadcast Fridays at 19:30 from the 7 July 2017.
The series stars David Kau as YouTube blogger David Kau who’s making the biggest movie South Africa has ever seen. However, he lives with his dysfunctional father Basil Kauwitz, played by Mark Banks and his “would be” digital entrepreneurial sister Leshae K (Natasha Thahane). David works from home – from the lounge actually. His online fame now prompts him for the big screen. David has his business meetings at home with people who will help him get his movie off the ground: from celebrities to politicians. He wants to know how they made it big. Life would be so much simpler if only his family would let him work in peace whenever a celeb popped by.
David Kau interviews South African personalities in a bid to get their buy-in for his big project. But will Riaad Moosa, Chris Forrest, Jessica Nkosi, Lorcia Cooper, Joey Rasdien and others be able to help David make the biggest South African movie? Or will Leshae K get her cocktail range “JUGS JUICE” and her sneaker range Leshae K launched before she departs abroad to meet her digital boyfriend? And will Basil still be the chairperson of Blended International (The SA Chapter)? Will FAIL (Folks Against The Interruption Of Life) win the National award for protest action in South Africa. All this and more will be revealed in It’s OK! We’re Family.

The show is a co-production between Free Woman Films and Endemol Shine Africa, directed by Tshepo Matlanyane and Series Produced by Kamscilla Naidoo.
Meet the cast:
DAVID KAU – David Kau
Born in Kroonstad, David began to study electrical engineering at the Tshwane University of Technology in 1995 before dropping it in 1996 for Speech and Drama at the University of Cape Town. He was inspired by the likes of Akin Omotoso to go into drama. As one of his school projects he had to write and perform a one man comedy show, which was his first taste of stand-up comedy and he has never looked back since. As Kau started gaining popularity in the world of laughs he caught the attention of Phat Joe who was at that time on Yfm. He then came to Johannesburg and did some skits on Phat Joe’s show as “The little brown Kau”. In the early 2000s David partnered with Kagiso Lediga to create and produce The Pure Monate Show. Since then he has headlined numerous comedy festivals and performed his own comedy specials. Seeing the lack of creative platforms for black comics in South Africa he then co-created and hosted the Blacks Only in 2004. The comedy series has been running for 13 years now. Some of his other television work includes hosting and judging the SABC1 reality talent show So You Think You're Funny! Being the creative he is, in 2002 he registered his film and Production Company called Disadvantaged Background, however the company only started operating in 2011. Through his company he directed and produced his 1st film, Taxi Ride. He has gone on to make more mzansi bioskops that include Silent Chains and Room divider that had Warren Masemola starring in it. Kau has been in the comedy industry for 20 years this year.
MARK BANKS – Basil Kauwitz
Mark Banks is one of the most recognized and respected South African comedians of his time. The comedic maverick celebrates 25 years in the industry this year. Mark boasts at least one new one-man show each year; continuously playing to packed houses and too many of the country’s top decision makers nationwide. He’s widely recognized for his political satire and common place jab at the rich and famous. His productions have played to packed houses across South Africa and beyond, his constant banter and unexpected one-liners have made him a high in demand Master of Ceremonies at corporate functions, leaving his audience in stitches. Among the numerous beyond hilarious performances Mark has staged his first one man show "Stars of South Africa and ‘Ek’s 'n Doos from South Africa which poked fun at locals living abroad. Banks recently co-hosted the game show I love South Africa alongside Mapaseka Ndlovu. He is currently busy with his one man show titled “Mark Bank Bankrupts” playing at the Monte Casino.
NATASHA THABANE – Leshae K
The budding actress is best known as “Enhle”, the character she played on Skeem Saam and recently she wowed the South African audience with her lead character Amogelang Maake in The Queen. The Soweto born star moved to Cape Town to Milnerton to matriculate. After matric she went on to study Accountancy at Wits but missed most of her classes because she was going to auditions. The following year she decided to leave the numbers when she got a bursary from Mo Flava to study towards a media degree at the Boston Media College. She has starred in various commercials such as Steers and McDonalds. Some of the roles that she has played include Fundiswa in Saints and Sinners, Tango - in Ses’Topla and in 2014 she played a lead in Single Galz.
