7de Laan is acutely aware of this integral role it plays in the lives of these pupils; in fact, it is what catalysed the show’s public engagement tours to schools across South Africa. More so, a few of our cast have testimonies of having watched 7de Laan in their school years to learn or brush-up their language skills.
7de Laan will further enhance this concept in a fun manner of learning and spelling by initiating a National “SlimSpel” competition. This is aimed at Grade Ten (10) Afrikaans First Language and Grade Ten (10) Additional Language students who will battle it out to represent their school in an episode that will broadcast Nationally on 30 June 2021 on SABC 2 6pm.
Some key points for entry consideration are that:
• Entries open 15 March 2021 and will close on 29 March 2021
• Spellers have to enter through their respective schools
• Schools may enter one (1) Speller registered for the Grade 10, 2021 academic year to represent their school
• The categories under which Spellers may enter is Afrikaans First Language or Afrikaans Additional Language (only one of the two not both)
• The shortlisted schools will be notified of their selection and Spellers will proceed to compete in various rounds online
• The final three (3) Spellers in the Afrikaans First Language Category and the final three (3) Spellers in the Afrikaans Additional Language category will be invited to the 7de Laan studios in Johannesburg to film the grand finale
• Filming will happen between 3-5 May 2021
• In the episode the Spellers will battle it out for the top 3 spots in Afrikaans First Language and the Top 3 spots for Afrikaans Additional Language
