For South Africa to reach its developmental goals, and address its many social issues, it will need strong leadership: not only now, but well into the future. The show aims to encourage young and bright minds to come up with innovative ways of addressing issues, while exposing them to the kinds of challenges and difficulties leaders are faced with.

One Day Leader is a reality television series that tackles the issue of leadership amongst the youth now in its 6^th season.  It follows six young people who showcase their leadership skills by tackling modern day social, economic and political issues, to compete for the coveted title of South Africa’s One Day Leader. Each week the six candidates are given a specific theme to consider and investigate. They use these themes to formulate not only a personal opinion, but a vision that will inspire the youth. 

The show is presented by Pearl Shongwe.

ONE DAY LEADER SEASON 8 CONTESTANTS PROFILES

Leader 1 - Lindokuhle Mabaso (20)

A disciplined, hardworking individual who is especially driven by the objective to make an impact through service. That is how 20-year-old Law student, Lindokuhle Mabaso describes herself. She values embrace, critical thinking and problem solving, which she exercises through participating in competitive debating. Lindokuhle has achieved numerous debating accolades locally and internationally. She embraces strategic planning and organisation. She is passionate about participating in projects that mandate her to research, analyse and apply knowledge, as well as projects that seek to teach younger individuals important skills such as critical thinking, public speaking and constructive argumentation.

Leader 2 - Thobani Eddie Madikizela (24)

Thobani Eddie Madikizela is a member and PR marketer for Vukani Foundation which operates in Eastern Cape and Western Cape. The Foundation assists with donations for children who are in need of any form of assistance, particularly in regards to day to day and educational needs.

He is also a chairperson of the Pondoland Youth Forum which seeks to bring about governmental involvement to improve the Pondoland. Their latest project success was getting the president of the country to declare a project to build a Pondoland university that will have campuses in Lusikisiki and Flagstaff.

Leader 3 - Zizipo Mtyobile (19)

The Eastern Cape is the birthplace of South African heroes yet remains one of the poorest regions in the country. As a product of this province, Zizipo Mtyobile’s path is fueled by the purpose to power and pave the (run)way for a new generation of vocal and proactive youth. She plans to do this through her chosen career path in aviation.

Zizipo considers herself a surgeon for humanity and an advocate for Africa. With  a vision of a just, humane, emancipated and socio-economically transformed Africa, she is on the mission to soar the skies and establish contact beyond the grave to renew acquaintanceship with the heroes of Africa's past to assure them that their struggle was not in vain. Zizipo is motivated by a simple motto, if we want to save humanity, we must advocate for the future.

Leader 4 - Zanele Ruth Madlazi (22)

Zanele’s mantra is to lift as she rises. It stems from the belief that we are all born with a unique purpose and a specific contribution to make towards making the world a better place. Her purpose is to use the spoken word to teach, to learn and to help others while she also develops herself. As a teacher in training, a tutor at the University of Johannesburg, a debater and leader, Zanele relies on the spoken word not to transmit textbook knowledge but to share with others experiences and information that holds the potential to change their lives as it has also changed mine.  Education plays a major role in her life.

Leader 5 -Vusi Gumbi (24)

Soweto born Vusimuzi Gumbi believe that people are not born into their destiny, but instead, they can choose their future. Vusi has been honoured with the prestigious Golden Key International Honour Society, University of Johannesburg Chapter for being in the top 15% at the Faculty of Humanities for the year 2016 and was appointed its Professional Development Director for the 2017/18 academic year.

Vusi believes his only true achievements are through the experience gained along the way. He has learnt the importance of giving back to the community and is still learning the importance of finding the strength within challenging situations

Leader 6 - Belle Miller (24)

In 2018, the Cape Town born Belle Miller was successfully appointed as the Human Resources Coordinator for the Thethani Debating League, a non-profit-organisation which strives to make debating more accessible in Cape Town. The following year she was appointed the chairperson for the Western Cape Schools Debating Board.

Belle is deeply passionate about challenging the legacy of apartheid. Through the art of debating she hopes.
