More on Fortune Ntekati
Fortune Ntekati’s passion for radio has seen him rise from being a novice community radio broadcaster to present one of Mpumalanga’s most popular afternoon drive shows in the province’s biggest radio station.
The youthful radio personality joined the Mbombela based Ligwalagwala FM in 2012, after some stints with community radio stations in Gauteng and Mpumalanga. He started at the SABC station as a presenter of a hip hop culture show on Friday nights and a dance music show on Saturdays.
Three years ago he was given the highly competitive time slot (3 – 6pm) and he didn’t disappoint, his hard work has been recognized with a nomination for the 2020 Radio Awards under the “Best Afternoon Drive” category.
Ntekati was born on the 20th of July 1987 in Naas township, outside Komatipoort, in Nkomazi municipality. After matriculating at Valencia Secondary School he tailed his love for media and life in the showbiz by enrolling at Micro Makro Technology for a media studies course, majoring in radio production, which he completed in record time.
His broadcasting career began in 2008 at Eldos FM a community radio station in Johannesburg, where he co-hosted the breakfast show, and a year later he joined Greater Middelburg FM where for two years he voluntarily produced and presented the afternoon drive show.
Ntekati’s interest in the hip hop culture earned him a recognition at the hip hop awards when he was crowned “King of hip Hop” in Mpumalanga province for two successive years (2016-2017). Other remarkable moments include appearances on SABC 1 Koze Kuse show as a guest presenter, and featuring on the kiddie’s program Fairytales also on SABC1.
Fortune has been on radio for an accumulative nine years and he looks forward to continue learning and grow his brand to become one of the best radio presenters in the country.
For the best radio awards, Ntekati’s Asambe afternoon drive show will be up against some of the best in the public broadcasting service (PBS), which include radio 2000’s Glenzito super drive, presented by radio veteran and celebrated house music DJ Glen Lewis, as well as Mhlobo Wenene (Masigoduke), Thobela FM (Ntshirogele) and Lesedi FM (Rea Kubeletsa afternoon drive).
