Tyla, Makhadzi, Dj Zinhle, Thembi Seete and Ikwekwezi FM’s very own Nelza-B were among the top winners at the Basadi In Music Awards that were held at the Joburg Theatre on 10 August 2024. With her first nomination at the awards and going up against other female powerhouses in radio production, Nelisiwe “Nelza-B” Buda showed her competitors a clean pair of heels as she clinched the award for Entertainment Radio Producer of the Year.
This comes after she was nominated for her stellar work as the producer of Ikwekwezi FM’s afternoon drive show dubbed Sibuya Nawe Express Lane. The Show airs every weekday at 15:00 – 18:00. It boasts a variety of music features such as the popular Unplugged Session that takes place every Monday from 16:00 – 17:00 promoting local music. The Unplugged Session is a live performance by various artists at the Radio Park foyer that gets carried on air. It also gets aired live on the station’s YouTube and Facebook platforms as well as SABC Plus to ensure digital radio consumption. (@Ikwekwezi_FM)
Visibly overwhelmed with joy and uncontainable excitement Nelza-B ascended stage and flew the SABC flag high as she accepted her award. In her acceptance speech she gave a shout out to radio producers for their creativity behind the scenes, she thanked the award organisers, Ikwekwezi FM management and everyone who voted for her. Nelza is no stranger to the limelight, she has been in the radio scene for 11 years. First in the SABC Education department then as a presenter and gradually progressed to becoming an award winning radio producer of a prime time show, all on Ikwekwezi FM.
The Basadi in Music Awards honour and celebrates women who make an impact on the South African music industry. Asked about what this means for the station, the Business Unit manager for the Mpumalanga Combo Mr Nkosinathi Ntuli said, “I am extremely proud of Nelza and the team. This bodes well for the station or the winning team as I often refer to them. We are also pleased to be producing quality producers that can stand against the best in the industry and emerge victorious. We know that our listeners, advertisers and other stakeholders can see that the station’s consistency in striving for the best will never fade and we will continue to deliver content and programmes of the highest quality, produced and presented by the best of the best in the industry”.
