Keep Cape Town Warm 2022

Date: Jun 2, 2022

Keep Cape Town Warm aims for collect more blankets and food than ever

Good Hope FM recently launched its “Keep Cape Town Warm” campaign for 2022 – aimed at helping those out in the bitter cold with potentially life-saving blankets and non-perishable food.

Capetonians have united in passionate support of the campaign over the course of 13 years since its launch – donating thousands of blankets and tons of food to one of the biggest winter outreach projects in the Mother City.

This year’s campaign will run throughout June and will aim to collect more blankets and non-perishable food than ever before, distributing them to where they are needed most via the station’s trusted partner, Community Chest.

“As the winter chill approaches, the question we need to ask ourselves is how much we would do - and how our giving would change – if the unfamiliar faces and shadows we so often see looking for shelter were someone we know. Our gran or grandpa, our mom and dad, our brother, sister or close friend,” says Gerard Muller, Programme Manager at Good Hope FM. “The fact is that every person in need IS someone’s family, not just some anonymous shell. Someone who deserves compassionate care. Someone who, without the necessary warmth and food, may very well not survive the winter cold if we don’t reach out. This is the fire in our motivation for this campaign and we know that Capetonians will once again rally behind it with all they’ve got.”

For 2022’s Good Hope FM Keep Cape Town Warm campaign, there are various ways in which the public can help:

“Good Hope FM is about infinitely more than just the hits, the freshest news, sport, entertainment and amazing events. We have the privilege of connecting with the community in which we operate on a daily basis and, in doing so, become intimately aware of the significant challenges faced by some of its members, especially in pandemic times, especially in winter” says Good Hope FM Business Manager, JD Mostert.

“Somewhere we need to use our significant reach and impact to change people’s lives for the better. It’s not only our privilege, but our responsibility as a station. What better way than to connect those who have the means with those who aren’t as fortunate, to throw the station and all its personnel’s weight behind this and doing our absolute best to take the sting out of the winter chill.”

“We are excited to once again, be a part of this wonderful campaign. In 2021, we handed out more than 1000 blankets to organisations in need,” says Eltena Rethman, spokesperson for Community Chest.  “This year, we hope that we can double the amount of beneficiaries and provide community-based feeding schemes some with much-needed resources to fulfil the great need for accessibility to a wholesome warm meal during the cold winter. Thanks to this amazing partnership, many vulnerable Capetonians will receive much-needed support.”

Updates on the progress of the campaign will be aired daily on Good Hope FM.
