What’s Brewing in 2018
Each of the three days has a slightly different feel. Friday kick-starts the VIP and corporate offering, popular amongst year-end functions and local companies bringing their clients for an after-work drink. Saturday is a day full of big events and activities such as festival sports hosted by the legendary MC Dan Nicholl and our Good Hope FM DJ’s as well as the beer judging results and prize giving. Sunday, growing in massive popularity as a family orientated event is a more relaxed day with a great selection of live music to entertain you and plenty of kiddies’ rides and entertainment in a safe environment. This year the Festival features over 60 breweries and distributors and offers more than 200 beers ranging from international mega-breweries such as Stella Artois to local microbreweries such as Shields Indie Brewing Company, The Italian Job Brewery and Diesel & Dust. Look out for some of the special brews on offer: 2017 saw over a dozen limited edition brews launched at the Festival, in fact this is the biggest number of brewers in attendance at the festival ever!
Martin Tucker, founder of The Cape Town Festival of Beer explains, “We have the largest range of brewers in the history of the Cape Town Festival of Beer ready to show you the best of their brews. This year some global and sought-after best sellers, namely Hoegaarden and Leffe, will be on tap. This will be the first time that such highly regarded beers will be available at a South African beer festival for the public to sip and savour. Some of the other breweries are working on special, new beers that will be launched for the first time at the Festival, such as CBC, Stellies, Urban and Drifter. If you are a true beer lover then you won’t want to miss out on tasting the extensive range of sour beers, such as Frasers Folly’s Wild Raspberry and the Devil’s Peak Takes Two to Mango (one of last year’s CTFOB’s winners)” Martin also recommends looking out for the use of special adjuncts like beetroot, pineapple and even coffee and chocolate which are being added to brews for an interesting and more flavourful experience. He explains, “It’s certainly clear that since the beginning, the Festival has been an incredible platform for showcasing cutting edge beer trends. There is a lot to see this year and we are very excited to be the springboard for new and upcoming breweries and their beers.”
The Cape Town Festival of Beer offers an assortment of top-class pop-up restaurants and gourmet food trucks. You will be able to find eateries such as Kitchen Cowboys, Southern Smoke, Love Pizza, and Dos Chidos. The Festival has ample seating and casual picnic style areas where festival goers can relax in front of the large stage and listen to jazz and live bands. For those who like to party a little later in to the evening, they can look forward to the best line up of Good Hope FM DJ’s to dance to until late in to the evening.
