Proteas Women to take on host nation Sri Lanka in their next encounter

Date: Apr 30, 2025

The Proteas Women will take on host nation Sri Lanka in their next encounter at the same venue on Friday.

Britz says she didn’t think she would have to come back after the cramps, “Yes I mean I was hoping I didn’t have to come back due to the cramps  but I mean I am always eager to help the team where I can.

“Yes its not always a nice feeling sometimes I wonder if I maybe be batted a bit longer or pushed myself a bit more maybe we wouldn’t have been in that situation but I guess at the end of the day that is cricket but yes of course I would have loved to get the team over the line.:

The Proteas Women fell to a 15-run defeat in their ODI tri-series opener against India in Colombo despite a valiant century from Tazmin Brits.

Set a target of 277, Brits and captain Laura Wolvaardt gave the Proteas the perfect start when the duo put on 140 for the first wicket.

The partnership was broken in the 28th over when Wolvaardt was trapped lbw by off-spinner Deepti Sharma with the skipper walking back to dressing room after scoring 49 from 75 balls.

Britz says the conditions were difficult to play under,” Yes I think in general the heat of the subcontinent and the humidity is something no south African is used to. It was a bit tough for me especially with us fielding first in 50 overs and batting so long so I got few cramps I struggle a bit but yes the heat definitely won today.”
