SA U19 Women win ICC T20 World Cup opener in Malaysia

The South African (SA) Women’s Under-19 (U19) cricket team started its International Cricket Council T20 World Cup campaign in Malaysia with a victory.

The Baby Proteas beat New Zealand by 22 runs in a Group C match in Kuching.

SA batted first in the match reduced to 11 overs per side and posted 91 for seven.

Opening batter Jemma Botha top scored with 32 off 24 balls.

The Proteas then restricted the Kiwis to 69 for five in their 11 overs.

Monalisa Legodi was SA’s most successful bowler and finished with figures of two for eight in two overs.

The Proteas’ next match is against Samoa on Monday.
