This will be their second Club World Cup in the club's history, after becoming the first African side to play in the event back in 2016. But there's a big hurdle the club is facing ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup.
The Brazilians must first overcome Egyptian club Pyramids FC in the second leg of the CAF Champions League to be played in Cairo this coming Sunday.
The Pretoria based club also became the first African club to play in the FIFA Club World Cup, and they make a return to the prestigious global competition after nine years alongside three other African footballing giants Al Ahly, Esperance and Wydad Casablanca.
Sundowns Chairperson Tlhopie Motsepe says the aim as a club is to continue reaching for the stars...
Saying we are proud with what we have achieved as a club and we are pushing to achieve even more. the motto of the club is the sky is the limit and we have to emulate that. it is good that we have achieved to much in the short history of the club, and we hungry for more success".
Only three players will be making a return to the FIFA Club World Cup for the second time. They are Sundowns captain Themba Zwane, utility player Thapelo Morena, and veteran goalkeeper Dennis Onyango.
He says they have already shared valuable lessons learnt in 2016 with the rest of the team, "We never had an idea about what to expect the first time we went to the club world cup. we finished 6th when we made our debut in 2016 and now we understand the magnitude of the tournament. we are going to play against the best teams in the world, and the aim this time is to reach the second round of the tournament".
