SA Deputy President safe amid motorcade shooting investigation

Date: Apr 20, 2025

South Africa's (SA) Deputy President Paul Mashatile says he is not worried about his safety because he is properly protected, as police launched an investigation into an alleged shooting incident directed at his motorcade.

The alleged incident is said to have occurred while he was driving home weeks ago from an African National Congress NEC meeting in Boksburg, Gauteng.

Mashatile was speaking to the media after attending a KwaSizabantu church service in KwaZulu-Natal.

“What really happened is that as I was driving from the NEC, my car was hit by what I initially thought were stones. When we got home, my protector said the impact was too much and they wanted to take it for checking because, you know, a bulletproof windscreen is too strong to be damaged. That’s why they are doing the investigation,” says Mashatile.
