SA Parliament given 14 days to probe allegations against Police Minister

Date: Jul 10, 2025

South Africa’s (SA) Parliament has given three portfolio committees tasked with investigating allegations against Police Minister, Senzo Mchunu, 14 days in to conclude their work

The portfolio committees on Police, Justice and Constitutional Development, as well as the country’s Joint Standing Committee on Intelligence will investigate the allegations leveled agaist Mchunu by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.

National Assembly Speaker Thoko Didiza says the committees will report back to the House with their findings and recommendations.

“We have given the committees 14 days to consider the matter, make their assessments and then come to the national assembly with recommendations on how as parliament we must address these issues. Our role as parliament is that of oversight and ensuring that we hold the executive to account, as well as law making. It is important when matters such as this that relate to the functions that we do in the various committees, we must be able to understand further as to what are these challenges and how do they impact on our country,” Didiza said.
