Date: Jul 10, 2025

South Africa's (SA) President Cyril Ramaphosa will brief the nation on Sunday night on developments arising from statements made by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkwanazi.

Mkwanazi made corruption allegations against senior police officials and the Minister of Police, Senzo Mchunu.

In a statement released by the Presidency, Spokesperson Vincent Magwenya said Ramaphosa has been seized with the matter through consultations and will take the nation into his confidence this weekend.

“Ramaphosa was attending a BRICS Summit in Brazil on Sunday, July 6 2025, when General Mkwanazi outlined numerous allegations at a media briefing,” said Magwenya. “The President undertook to attend to this development on his return from Brazil, in view of the implications for national security. Ramaphosa has been seized with this matter in recent days and will, following various consultations, take the nation into his confidence at 19h00 (CAT) on Sunday, July 13 2025.”
