This follows the arrest last month of Police Crime Intelligence head, Dumisani Khumalo and six senior police officials on fraud and corruption charges. They appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court, in the Gauteng Province, where they were granted bail.
Masemola's impending announcement comes a day after explosive revelations by Kwazulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi about Police Minister, Senzo Mchunu's alleged collusion with criminal syndicates. This has been described as a matter of national security concern that could impact the integrity of country's security services. National Police Spokesperson, Athlenda Mathe says a media briefing will be held this week where this and other issues in the public domain will be discussed.
“The General assures the nation that daily crime combatting operations and normal day to day policing at stations and other polce service points continues. The mandate and work of the police which is to prevent, combat and investigate crime, to maintain public order, to protect and secure the inhabitants of the Republic and their property, and to uphold and enforce the law is not affected in anyway. The men and women in blue remain hard at work at every corner of this country to serve and protect all people living in SA,” Mathe said.
