A memorial service with a candlelight ceremony was held in honour of the children on Thursday evening. Members of the community came out in their numbers to support the two families in their time of grief.
It was a somber evening in the Villa Liza township, where the Mthabela and Shabalala families gathered with their friends and neighbours to share their fond memories of the four children. Family Spokesperson, Gugu Mthabela says their grief is overwhelming, but they are thankful for all the support.
"Thanks for being here for us during this difficult time. As a grieving family I'd like to say thanks. One called me dad and two called me uncle. We are hurt but all we get better with time. Thanks for checking up on us and continue doing so to others," Mthabela said.
