SA city urges undertakers to avoid burials during predicted weekend rains

Date: Jul 4, 2025

The City of Cape Town, in South Africa (SA), has urged undertakers and funeral goers to be cautious this weekend as a series of cold fronts make landfall

Heavy rain and strong winds are expected across large parts of the Cape Metro, Winelands and Overberg until Sunday.
Member of the Mayoral Committee on Community Service and Heath, Francine Higham, says the wet and windy weather conditions have the potential to impact on operations at cemeteries, such as the digging of graves.

“With dozens of burials scheduled for this weekend. we urge visitors to please take care. Saturdays are especially busy and we encourage families to consider Sunday and weekday burials to ease the pressure. The city is committed to supporting residents with safe and dignified burials through all weather conditions,” Higham said.
