Anglican Church leader calls for inquiry into allegations against SA Police Minister

Date: Jul 8, 2025

The head of the Anglican Church of Southern Africa, Archbishop Thabo Makgoba has called for the urgent establishment of a preliminary inquiry into the allegations leveled against the South Africa’s (SA) Police Minister

Makgoba says the inquiry should advise President Cyril Ramaphosa within six weeks on how to deal with the allegations made against Senzo Mchunu.

Makgoba’s recommendation comes days after Kwazulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi accused Mchunu of having contacts with criminals leading to the disbanding of the Political Killings Task Team. The unit had been investigating high-profile murders and arresting alleged syndicate members.

Makgoba says the allegations are serious and threaten to undermine the confidence of people in the police.
