While the recently released fourth-quarter crime statistics show some declines in crime, violent crimes remain alarmingly high. Between January and March 2025, over 5,700 people were murdered across the country.
Mchunu was briefing the media in Pretoria on new strategies aimed at strengthening the South African Police Service’s (SAPS) ability to fight crime.
"As SAPS do their work, there are critical key aspects of their work that they require support for. We call them enablers, in other words, if you address them, SAPS will be more effective and much more efficient. One of those is technology. The impact of technology in policing, every stakeholder agrees that technology is a must-have and a key component of our overall system," said Mchunu.
