This initiative forms part of the continent-wide Africa Vaccination Week, observed from April 24-30.
According to departmental Spokesperson Tebogo Lekgethwane, the campaign is aimed at boosting immunisation coverage and preventing the resurgence of vaccine-preventable diseases among children.
"This campaign is part of efforts to ensure that no child is left behind when it comes to protection against serious diseases such as polio, measles, mumps and others," said Lekgethwane.
As part of the initiative, parents and caregivers across the North West province are being urged to bring their children’s Road to Health cards when visiting clinics. These cards provide a detailed record of each child’s immunisation history and highlight which vaccines are still due.
Health MEC(in full) Sello Lehari highlighted the critical role of the Road to Health card in keeping children protected.
“Parents must pay close attention to the Road to Health cards, which detail all the stages of immunisation. It also indicates the diseases such as polio, measles, mumps and others, which children must be immunised against,” said Lehari.
Africa Vaccination Week is a regional initiative led by the World Health Organization to strengthen immunisation services across African countries and raise public awareness of the lifesaving power of vaccines.
