In response, toilet paper brand Baby Soft®, cleaning detergent company Domestos, and the Department of Basic Education have launched the "Unstoppable Together" campaign to improve school sanitation across the province.
Meanwhile, the digital economy continues to reshape the world of work, demanding new skills from young people. A Intelligence is automating routine tasks such as data entry and simple analysis, but it cannot easily replace uniquely human qualities. Despite this, many SA youth, particularly in rural areas, are being left behind due to lack of access to information and geographic limitations.
Nkosi, a youth digital inclusion advocate, says: "Opportunities are not necessarily advertised in places where young people spend their time, like social media or local community spaces.”
She adds that unless there is meaningful intervention, SA risks losing its brightest talent to countries like Canada, the UK, and Australia a phenomenon known as "brain drain." These countries are actively recruiting skilled professionals from SA, offering better pay, working conditions, and stability.
Nkosi emphasizes that companies have a role to play by expanding internet access and digital skills.
