Omotoso arrested on immigration charges: SA Police Commissioner

Date: May 10, 2025

Nigerian televangelist and founder of Jesus Dominion International, Timothy Omotoso, has been arrested in South Africa (SA) on immigration-related charges.

National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola confirmed the arrest, saying it was carried out in coordination with the Tactical Response Team (TRT) in the Eastern Cape province.

“In collaboration with the SA Police Service and TRT, we effected the arrest. It relates to immigration matters. He will appear in court soon, and the full details of the charges will be made known,” Masemola said.

The arrest comes shortly after Omotoso was acquitted by the High Court in Gqeberha on multiple criminal charges. Last month, Judge Irma Schoeman ruled that the State had failed to prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt. Omotoso, along with Lusanda Sulani and Zukiswa Sitho, had been facing 32 charges including rape, sexual assault, and human trafficking.

His latest legal trouble, however, shifts attention from the now-concluded criminal case to questions about his immigration status in the country.

Authorities have yet to confirm when Omotoso will appear in court.
