Speaking at a press briefing in Khartoum, Defence Minister Yassin Ibrahim accused the UAE of violating Sudan’s sovereignty by supporting the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a paramilitary group engaged in a two-year war against the national army.
“As a result of continued aggression, the Security and Defence Council has decided to designate the UAE as a hostile state,” said Ibrahim. “We are also severing all diplomatic ties and withdrawing our embassy and consulate from the UAE.”
The RSF, which once operated alongside the Sudanese military, has been locked in a violent power struggle with the army since April 2023. The conflict has devastated civilian life, displaced millions, and triggered a humanitarian crisis.
Khartoum accuses the UAE of backing the RSF as a proxy force, claims that could significantly shift diplomatic relations in the region. The UAE has yet to respond publicly to the allegations or Sudan’s decision to cut ties.
