The South African Weather Service has issued a warning for a cold front expected to bring strong winds, damaging rains, and snowfall from today through to midweek.
The organisation has already dispatched teams to the Silverton Informal Settlement in Khayelitsha and Thembalethu in George, Western Cape, following a fire that left several residents displaced.
Gift of the Givers provincial Spokesperson Ali Sablay says their teams are responding to both the fire crisis and the approaching weather system.
"As our Western Cape teams prepare for the inclement weather predictions for the weekend and the coming months, we are inundated with calls for assistance due to fires occurring in informal settlements," said Sablay. "In the past seven days, our teams have assisted fire victims in Khayelitsha, Kosovo, and Samora Machel, where homes have been gutted, leaving people displaced."
