The assurance came as Eskom briefed Parliament’s Electricity and Energy Committee on its strategic plan for the period between 2025 and 2030.
The briefing followed an abrupt implementation of Stage 2 load shedding on Thursday afternoon, which was later suspended at midnight. The unexpected power cuts reignited concerns over the utility’s ability to maintain a stable energy supply as winter approaches.
Eskom Chief Executive Officer Dan Marokane outlined the company’s strategy to ensure the availability of additional capacity.
"This year, we will enter June with additional capacity from Medupi Unit 6, Unit 4 at Kusile, and the refurbished Koeberg Unit 2," said Marokane.
"When we approach the next cycle of maintenance, we will have more capacity, which means the level of maintenance required will not be as high as it is now. This will help us smooth out our availability."
