This follows a court challenge that the Democratic Alliance and Economic Freed Fighters had brought in the country’s High Court in the Western Cape Province, in opposition of his proposed hike in the country’s Value Added Tax. The court ratified an agreement reached on a few days ago, allowing Godongwana to rescind the increase, which was initially set to take effect on 1 May 2025.
