Date: Sep 18, 2023

A tragic bus crash that killed about 20 mine workers in Musina, Limpopo province in South Africa has led to the suspension of operations at Venetia mine.

The accident happened on Saturday night, when a bus carrying workers to the night shift collided with a truck and burst into flames.

The mine officials visited the accident site this morning and expressed their condolences to the families and colleagues of the victims. The workers were employed by Murray and Roberts, a contracting company that provides services to Venetia mine. The company said it will provide support and assistance to the affected parties.

The provincial MEC for transport Florence Radzilani also arrived at the scene of the accident to receive a full report on the cause and circumstances of the crash. She urged motorists to exercise caution and respect the rules of the road.
