This marks a significant jump from the earlier estimate of $15.7 billion, shared by the government last September.
The Ministry of Finance shared the update on Tuesday through a statement on X (formerly Twitter), but did not give a reason for the increase.
The government had previously outlined key focus areas for the upcoming fiscal year, which starts in July. These include agro-industrialisation, tourism, and the extractive industries, particularly minerals and petroleum. Officials have positioned these sectors as central to Uganda’s long-term development strategy.
Although the Ministry hasn’t disclosed the full breakdown of spending, the larger budget could point to expanded investments in infrastructure and job-creating projects.
