‘US tariffs add volatility, but tourism holds steady’

Date: Apr 30, 2025

Paul Griffiths, Chief Executive Officer of Dubai International Airport, has acknowledged that United States (US) tariffs have added volatility to global tourism trends.

However, he pointed out that the Middle East has seen stable visitor numbers, largely supported by the gradual return of Chinese tourists post-pandemic. Griffiths mentioned that it remains challenging to fully gauge the impact of the newly imposed US tariffs on international travel.

Despite global uncertainties, Dubai International Airport remains optimistic about future growth. The airport is expected to handle 96 million passengers by 2025. As one of the world’s busiest airports, it welcomed 23.4 million passengers in the first quarter of this year, marking a 1.5% increase compared to the same period in 2024.
