Johannesburg – Monday, 3 February 2025 – Balwin Properties and its media partner, South Africa’s favourite youth radio station, 5FM, are pushing 2025 into overdrive with an EPIC set of cool marathons across Mzansi, as well as the chance to win a brand-new, furnished and equipped Balwin apartment to the value of a whopping R1 million.

The Balwin Sport Marathon Series, now Ampli5ed by 5FM, is in its second year of supporting road running and promoting a healthier lifestyle amongst South Africans and will see the Jeppe Marathon in Gauteng on 9 February, the Peninsula Marathon in Cape Town on 16 February, the Pretoria Marathon on 23 February and the Dolphin Coast Marathon in Ballito on the 16th of March bringing serious runners, all the way to those who are in it just for the fun, together for THE sporting event of 2025.

5FM will be broadcasting live from each event – bringing an absolutely electric atmosphere – and the station’s very own Tshepang “Big Chief” Moji will also be stepping up, getting into running shape, documenting every part of his journey and participating in his first race ever.

Runners over any of the title event distances (5km, 10km, 21.1km or 42.2km), as well as race marshals, can qualify to win a fully furnished Balwin apartment in The Reid Lifestyle Estate, Sandton, worth a cool R1 million, when they visit one of the developer’s show units after the races. Participants can further boost their chances with multiple visits until the end of June 2025.

In addition, each runner who enters any of the sponsored races will receive up to R3 000 back in value with their race entry. This will entail a customised 12-week coaching programme for any of the sponsored race distances by renowned coach Lindsay Parry and his team, courtesy of new partners Laundromax. These programs include running schedules, strength training, coach videos and much more to get each participant into top shape and, for those who wish to take a shot at the Comrades or other marathons, give them the best chance of qualifying or achieving a personal best.

The first 4 000 entries for each of the marathon events- the first 2000 entries at the Peninsula Marathon - will also receive a high-quality T-shirt.

In addition, runners across any of the race-day distances will receive well-stocked goody bags, a commemorative medal and free access to digital photos by Action Photo SA.

The first Balwin Sport Marathon Series race kicks off on 9th February 2024 with the 44th edition of the Jeppe Marathon, the oldest marathon in Central Gauteng.

Living up to its reputation, the Balwin Sport Peninsula Marathon scheduled for 16 February 2025 sold out in record time. The oldest standard marathon race in South Africa, and now in its 57th edition, takes runners on a breathtaking point-to-point journey from Green Point to Simon’s Town’s historic naval base. The second half of the route offers spectacular coastal views, making it a must-do for runners who appreciate scenic courses. For out-of-town participants, it’s an ideal opportunity to enjoy Cape Town’s sea-level air and pancake-flat terrain – but don’t underestimate the challenge if the South Easter decides to make an appearance! The ASA National Marathon Champs will also be hosted at this year’s event, and covered live on SuperSport.

23 February 2025 will see the running of the 51st edition of the Pretoria Marathon - a challenging yet rewarding February qualifier, featuring 653 meters of elevation gain. This hilly route, which includes tackling Klapperkop twice on the Marathon route, is the perfect preparation for the demanding climbs of the Comrades Marathon. Plus, runners are rewarded with sweeping panoramic views of Pretoria from the summit – a worthwhile payoff for the effort.

The Dolphin Coast Marathon follows on 16 March 2025 as the last leg in the series. The race will be bigger and better in 2025 with an incredible offering to runners and a relatively easy Comrades qualifier (if ever there is such a thing) on the M4 Coastal Highway from Ballito to Durban. Featuring 42km, 21km, 10km and 5km options there is a distance for the whole family. All the title marathons are Comrades and Two Oceans Marathon qualifiers except for the Dolphin Coast marathon, where participants can only qualify for Comrades.
